Slegh / krinky winky
Slegh, also known as krinky winky, was born in Johannesburg in 1987. Art and “creating other things” was a passion since early in primary school and by the age of 15 he started doing graffiti after being inspired by what he saw around him on trains, track sides and highways around Cape Town.
His work often has at its centre a character called krinky winky (all lower case). krinky winky is a dolphin who sometimes wears a teletubby suit.
“I am inspired by love, fear, honesty, openness, cartoons, the psychedelic experience, things that make me laugh, pop culture, being, exploring nature, animals, tribal art, South Africa, universal symbols and the mysteries of living and dying.”
Besides his public work in Cape Town and Johannesburg, he has also made art for the streetwear brand Onlock and collaborated with Shelflife.
